Welcome to the Minnesota – Dakotas website! The District Bulletin Editor, Mark Nyquist has done a fantastic job of creating and maintaining the website to be a reliable resource for the District. He is also in the process of adding new content such as a resource page that will contain useful information all in one location, so keep checking the site to see all the updates he is making.

This year we are trying something new, a District Large Scale Service Project (DLSSP) as a way to keep Circle K excitement up throughout the summer and as another event to help create fellowship among the members of our District. The first annual DLSSP will be June 25th to the 27th in the Twin Cities. We will be camping out at Camp Spring Lake in Rosemount having an awesome time hanging out and making s’mores on the campfire. During the Day on Saturday we will be in St. Paul doing a landscaping project with Habitat for Humanity. It will be a weekend full of fun, excitement, laughter, and service what more could you want out of a weekend? The registration fee is $35 and must be received by June 9th to Jodi Piekarski, an Assistant Administrator. We can only accept the first 28 registrations because of the campsite and service project, so register soon!

I am excited to see what our great District will accomplish this year. I can’t wait to visit all of the clubs this year and meet more fantastic people! Thanks for electing me as your Governor and let’s have an awesome year!

Six Cents Initiative

In order to stay healthy, it is important to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of clean water every day. But more than 2.6 billion people lack even the most basic sanitation facilities and safe drinking water sources. That means one in five children in developing countries is susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria that grow in unsafe waters—and 5,000 die every day. The most common diseases lead to diarrhea and dehydration, which can lead to death if untreated.

At a cost of only 6 cents, a mixture of sugar and salt called oral rehydration salts (ORS) offers the most effective and cheapest way to save lives during dehydration. CKI is working with UNICEF to provide these rehydration salts to those in need.

CKI’s Six Cents Initiative with UNICEF is designed to help children get the rehydrating salts they need to survive dehydration spells. But that’s not all. With the money raised, UNICEF also is working to provide long-term solutions for the problem, which includes providing clean water resources through the installation of filtration and sanitation systems. Water filters installed in schools and communal areas can benefit entire communities. Ultimately, the goal is to educate individuals on safe water and hygiene practices, and to provide supplies to produce safe water supplies for communities.
