What is Circle K?

Circle K is a co-educational service, leadership development, and friendship organization, organized and sponsored by a Kiwanis club on a college or university campus. It is a self-governing organization and elects its own officers, conducts its own meetings, determines its own service activities, and establishes its own dues structure. Its Objects include the Objects of Kiwanis. Once organized, a Circle K club continues to be sponsored by a Kiwanis club. Although the ultimate responsibility for Circle K is that of the Kiwanis Board of Directors, the sponsorship function is most directly carried out by the Kiwanis club Committee on Circle K Clubs, assisted by a faculty advisor (who may or may not be a Kiwanian) designated by the college or university administration.

District and International Conventions are held each year. At the International Convention, International officers are elected, the Constitution and Bylaws are amended, and Circle K members participate in a service project.

What is the Fall Leadership Training Conference (FLTC)?

FLTC stands for Fall Leadership Training Conference. FLTC is a very important event for our district and all of our members. It is vital to the district for two reasons; first it is a major source of funding for the district.

It is important to all of our members for 3 reasons. It provides for all 3 tenants of Circle K, Service, Fellowship and Leadership. The service project that we will be doing is Kids Against Hunger. We will be packaging food that will be sent to third world countries to help feed children. One of the biggest things that we take for granted is having a place to live and being able to eat every day. Second are the friends that you make at FLTC. FLTC is a more relaxed atmosphere, which allows you to be yourself. Since it is at Camp Patterson, we will have plenty of time to sit and chat at the Camp fire.

The last part is both important for the District and for all our members. That is the leadership that you gain from FLTC. For the members it helps all of you to become better leaders and people, both in Circle K and in life. It is important for the district for the same reason. Without you the members we cannot accomplish anything. The Governor is as strong as his/her District Board. As a District Board we are only as strong as our clubs. As clubs you are only as strong as the Presidents who run them. In turn the President is only as strong as the Board he/she has. Lastly the Board is only as strong as the members in the club. We can only do as much as you allow us to, and from what I have seen from our members I know that we will be able to accomplish GREAT things.

What is District Convention (DCON)?

DCON stands for District Convention, the 2nd of the two District Hosted Events. DCON is different from FLTC in a couple different ways. DCON is a more formal event, it’s the time to dress up and look good doing it. DCON is when we elect our District officers, vote on any By-law Changes proposed by the District Board, and meet Kiwanians during Extravaganza. This allows you to get to know some of the people that have made Circle K possible. Without their sponsorship Circle K would not be possible. We also have a silent auction that has people constantly walking over to the table trying to sneak a glance at the item(s) they’re bidding on.

DCON is also the same as FLTC in that it is a good opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, gain leadership experience and as always have lots of fun.

What is International Convention (ICON)?

ICON stands for International Convention, like DCON but for all the Districts. This is when you vote for our International Board, and vote on any By-Law changes proposed by the International Board. Like all Circle K events it is a great time to make new friends and gain lots of Leadership experience. You will not only gain leadership experience but also experience in Parliamentary procedure. Most importantly it is a great time to go see another part of the country and experience another level of Circle K.

What is the Large Scale Service Project (LSSP)?

LSSP stands for Large Scale Service Project. It is like the name says a huge service project for everyone in Circle K. It is held in the same area as ICON and is during the week before.
