I am excited to welcome you to the official Minnesota Dakotas Circle K website! Here you can find everything from officer resources to the latest information about upcoming district events. I encourage you to take time to look around!

The Minn-Dak district board has been working hard to plan a successful year for our district. We are getting ready to "Serve this Way" at our District Convention this March 5-7 at Ruttgers' Sugar Lake Lodge in Grand Rapids, MN. With opportunities to learn about Circle K, develop your leadership skills, participate in service projects, and meet new friends, you don't want to miss out!

I look forward to seeing you all in March!

Hello Minn-Dak Circle K!

I am excited to invite you to attend the Minnesota Dakotas District of Circle K International's 2009 Fall Leadership Training Conference! On October 9-11th, Circle K clubs from around the tri-state area will be gathering at Camp Patterson, near Mankato, MN for a weekend of service, leadership, and fellowship activities. The cost of this action-packed event is $65 and includes the following:

  • Registration
  • ALL meals (Friday night pizza through breakfast Sunday)
  • Lodging
  • Conference materials
  • T-shirt

Your district board has been busy planning an exciting weekend! We're going to be “Splashing into Service” with bonfires, a Habitat for Humanity service project, officer training sessions, leadership challenges, mock caucusing, and more!

To go along with our water theme, I am challenging each club to raise money for the Six Cents Initiative, the Circle K International Service Initiative. By teaming up with UNICEF, you can save a life for just six cents. If our district can raise $500 by FLTC (about $50 per club) the district board will polar bear plunge into the lake!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Camp Patterson as we “Splash into Service!”

In Service and Fellowship,

Kacy Haatvedt

Minnesota-Dakotas District Governor

Six Cents Initiative

In order to stay healthy, it is important to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of clean water every day. But more than 2.6 billion people lack even the most basic sanitation facilities and safe drinking water sources. That means one in five children in developing countries is susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria that grow in unsafe waters—and 5,000 die every day. The most common diseases lead to diarrhea and dehydration, which can lead to death if untreated.

At a cost of only 6 cents, a mixture of sugar and salt called oral rehydration salts (ORS) offers the most effective and cheapest way to save lives during dehydration. CKI is working with UNICEF to provide these rehydration salts to those in need.

CKI’s Six Cents Initiative with UNICEF is designed to help children get the rehydrating salts they need to survive dehydration spells. But that’s not all. With the money raised, UNICEF also is working to provide long-term solutions for the problem, which includes providing clean water resources through the installation of filtration and sanitation systems. Water filters installed in schools and communal areas can benefit entire communities. Ultimately, the goal is to educate individuals on safe water and hygiene practices, and to provide supplies to produce safe water supplies for communities.
